All or Nothing

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Art-making often begins in the simplest way: a black mark on a white sheet of paper or canvas. The reason we view black and white as clashing forces is that while these colors are true opposites of one another, they both can also be used as symbols for all or nothing. This exhibition features works from Crystal Bridges’ permanent collection, dating from 1860 to today, that play on the different concepts of these colors.

DESIGN GOALS
This exhibition was FUN. It was a small space that we wanted to make as dramatic as possible. Because of the rectilinear gallery, I introduced a set of angles that would break up the sections. Forcing the text to overlap between black and white helps viewer consider the difference in color and look closer.
