American Made Collateral

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The things we make tell the story of who we are. American Made: Treasures from the American Folk Art Museum features 115+ objects—including quilts, carvings, signs, samplers, weathervanes, whirligigs and more—hand made by Americans when our nation was young.

DESIGN GOALS
This project remains one of my favorites, because I was able to create cohesive design and interaction across formats. Below is both the Director’s Reception invitation and the discovery guide geared towards children. I created the identity, type treatment, and all collateral for the exhibition.

This Director’s Reception invitation was based off an artwork in the exhibition that was an actual intricate love letter from the 1700s. This concept allowed for a story to be revealed as you engaged with it. Shown below is the order of the fold.

At this point of the fold, I brought in moments of other mediums in the exhibition, creating more visual interest.

At the center was the invitation itself, and on the back was information about the artwork this concept reflected. Guests are invited to write their own letter with the provided invite.

The other piece that included the love letter concept was the Discovery Guide, tailored to children. At the center was a perforated page that mimicked the love letter in the show, with instructions for what to write and how to fold it.

Shown above is the mini love letter that children could write and fold themselves. Below is the digital file of the full guide.
