Soul of a Nation Collateral
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Developed by the Tate Modern in London and debuting in the US at Crystal Bridges, Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power shines a bright light on the vital contribution of Black artists to an important period in American history and art.
DESIGN GOALS
I created a unique and fully developed system for this exhibition’s gallery experience, marketing collateral, and symposium. The type treatment evokes the time period while remaining modern and relevant.
In the gallery and in collateral, I used a system of black gloss on black matte, to bring texture, messaging, and surprise, while letting the artwork remain the focus.
A packet developed for the symposium that was placed in guests hotel rooms.
The Director’s Reception invitation included a foldout poster with all 61 artist names and the work of Wadsworth Jarrell.
Guests could pick-up this guide in the exhibition for free, which was a 28-page booklet that referenced each of the 12 rooms in the gallery.
The guide also included a 4-panel pull-out, with a poem poster and resources to continue the experience. Below, you can flip through the entire guide.
